Inspirational/Devotional Oct. Devotional (190 hits)

In the month of October we are examining the benefits of being obedient to GOD. The ruler of everything, God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent (in all places at all times) and He cares for us. So why do we find it difficult to obey Him? God loves us more than we imagine and when we are disobedient to His word, nonchalant about His will and ways, I believe it is hurtful and disappointing to Him.

Ponder that for a moment and think about how we feel when someone disappoints, lies to and hurt us; this is the same way God feels when we disregard His rules. I have recently experienced such disregard in my life, not for my rules but the rules that should govern the lives of all believers, TRUTH. I looked at the situation and the lies as betrayal, and though I’ve forgiven the person, the acts plagued me. How could anyone do that to someone they profess to love? Do we even know how to love on the level of God, whose image we were made in or have we become so caught up in the world we live in that we’ve forgotten that this world is truly NOT our home? We are supposed to be lights in this darkness that surrounds us. We are to be the examples that the world emulate for a LIFE of ABUNDANCE and Blessedness, not the other way around.

When I consider our topic of the month, I am reminded of Adam in the Garden of Eden and how his disobedience cost us a life of fellowship with God and then I remember the redemptive work of Jesus Christ at Calvary, how His obedience reconciled us back to God. Today, because of the selfless act of Christ we are able to communicate openly with God, the Father. Still, I wonder how many times in a day do we hurt, disappoint or even worse Betray HIM. In studying those scriptures, I saw two different acts, one was of disobedience, the other obedience, and here is the truth. We reap benefits and rewards when we obey!!! It boggles my mind to think that though we Christians are not perfect, we do miss the mark; there are persons out there who purposefully disobey God. I pity them for I have come to realize that they are lost and far from truth. It is the truth of God and His love for us that is liberating and the act of obeying Him is actually for our protection. God speaks through His Spirit and He is still directing our paths and ordering our steps, through His Word. He rewards us when we do as He says, according to Deuteronomy 28. We are blessed when we obey Him; but, if you dare to read a bit further, the curses of disobedience follow and I think you’ll agree that we can see the effects of disobedience all around us today. So, as we delve deeper into obedience this month, I pray you see that truly this way is most beneficial; it is the way that leads to Abundant LIFE.
