Set Your Plans But Expected to Re-routed (108 hits)

Two years ago I set a goal to branch into personal development as a professional speaker and coach to deepen my focus on empowering women. I determined that this would be a natural fit for me as an writer of Christian books. Yesterday, I was reminded that we lay our plans and God steps in to interrupt them to carry us to our destiny.

Being paid large fees to keynote events for women as well as hosting my own brand of seminars and conferences is of course a part of my million dollar business strategy. But on yesterday, God opened an opportunity for me to be in a specific place at a specific time to intercept a call from a woman who was so depressed she was on the verge of committing suicide. She said, “I am looking for a reason to go on”. Stunned by the voice on the other end of the line, I knew this would be an uphill battle. As I listened to her story, I realized she believed she had plenty of reasons to want to die — she just needed one to give her a reason to live. I had to get my bearings and step into a place that God designed for me before the day had ever begun. This would prove to be a challenge beyond the typical seminar or coaching situation – this would be a life or death encounter on the other end of a telephone.

It was a place that God had already prepared for me. It was an experience that God would use to rush me toward my destiny. Everything I needed to know to take charge of the situation was already in place. My own experience would qualify me to nurture this hurting soul. As I transitioned in my role, I knew I had just one shot. I knew I had to trust and follow God’s lead. It was like a giant chess game, but this time I was negotiating a life. This blog is a testament to the power of God.

I don’t get a chance to bill my client for this one. But I do get the chance to be in gratitude for allowing God to use me — for orchestrating the events that led me to be where I was on yesterday that saved a woman’s life. You won’t find this one in your business plan because it was a case study of mammouth proportion. And, had I not been flexible enough and willing to go where he was leading at this hour, a woman may well have lost her life! My mission statement was definitely taken to task here. This woman needed inspiration for living. She needed the kind words and comfort of another human being who cared. I had to call upon everything I knew to reach her, and by the time we ended the conversation she had been transformed from hopeless to powerful! She came to understand who she really is and what potential she has to bring to the world. In the end she was thanking me so profusely, when it was I, who should have been thanking her because she represented a test in my life which stretched my character and forced me to grow.

Fellow entrepreneurs, tests and trials come not to make us stumble, but to catapult us to fulfill our destiny. Let me hear your thoughts.
