As I entertain early morning thoughts I cease not to resist the opportunity to muse on yesterday’s life lessons. My daily mantra from Jim Rohn has been, “Ask not what I am getting, but what am I becoming?”
After reading a portion of “Get Yours” by Amy Dubois Barnett she stated that, “Many women are paralyzed by self-doubt. We tend to be conservative and apprehensive when it comes to new experiences. We are too insecure to push ourselves out of our comfort zones.” I began to turn her conviction over in my mind and the question popped up in my head, “Are you a wallflower or a centerpiece?”
In order to be able to answer that we need to first clarify the distinguishing features of each one.
Definition of a wallflower according to the urban dictionary:
v A type of loner. Seemingly timid individuals who no one really knows. Often some of the most interesting people if one actually talks to them
v Someone, who sees everything, knows everything, but does not say a word. They cannot handle having someone pay attention to them even though they crave it as much as everyone else. Wallflowers are just phased in, and faded into the background.
Definition of a centerpiece according to Macquarie Dictionary:
v A centerpiece is the most important item of a display, usually of a table setting. A centerpiece also refers to any central or important object in a collection of items.
Whose responsibility is it to bring to light the beauty of a flower that is hidden amidst a thousand replicas? We each become the interior decorators of our own unique lives. We have the power to choose where we will stand in this world either front and center or in the wings of obscurity. Michael Jackson told us “life ain’t so bad at all if you live it off the wall.”
It is imperative that you come to an acute awareness of how important and valuable you are to society. Someone is waiting to behold the rare qualities that only you possess. I dare you to rest confidently as a centerpiece of distinction who is destined to attract the attention of countless admirers. You were created to change the atmosphere, what are you going to do?
Either remain hidden or get off the wall!
