3 Strategies to Up Your "IT" Factor (261 hits)

Keep in mind that we're trying to up our 'it' factor so we're not talking about the regular stuff, we're talking about being extraordinary and dynamic...

3 Strategies to Up Your "IT" Factor - (3) is the key number...

1. Lead with Intention:

Leading with intention is simply a matter of supporting the achievement of extraordinary goals through increased awareness of the connection between teaching, learning, and leading...and doing it on purpose.

How do you start? Grow - Gain - Give

Grow - grow the bottom line by being strategic and taking action on the right things, but also grow in character - be a the person that you look up to - be the person that you like the most.

Gain - leaders must gain respect in order to gain team cohesion. Start by respecting your business, respecting your people even if they don't deserve it, and respecting your environment. Not just internally, but externally as well. Are your operations contributing to the economy and creating jobs for the community you serve?

In order to gain respect, you have to give respect to your business, your people and the community you serve.

Give - You know the saying, "give you ye shall receive." This is nothing knew so the questions is, "are you manifesting your thoughts, ideas and intentions into the physical form? Giving requires structure, action and commitment. Commit to giving in the right way.

Lead with Intention

2. Advocate for those things you believe in and for those you want to buy in:

Advocate for those things you believe in by taking a position - pick something that ties to that emotional trigger that allows us to help and nurture. Next Advocate for it. Take a position on an issue - use your business as a vehicle to get things done - make it a part of your business culture.

I'm not talking about being exclusive - it's about being inclusive - building a company culture that says, ..."we have an opinion, we believe in this, and we will contribute as a team."

Advocate for those you want to buy into what you're selling:

Three ways to do this...

Connecting - connect with a 360 degree approach. Instead of connecting people by providing names and telephone numbers, actually tell each person what they should convey to each other when they meet and set an appointment for everyone including you to have coffee or lunch. This way, the connection is more powerful and produces much better results.

Collaborating - best example - let's say this you were in a class setting and every one had to break up into groups of 5 and each group had to come up with 5 key points or steps to achieve success for start up companies. Each person in the group had to share a step. This means you have to work together to create something powerful and valuable. That's true collaboration.

Mentoring - this requires commitment and structure. It's great to be there for someone when they call or have a question but if you want to advocate - that means intentionally seeking out opportunities to mentor on a consistent basis in a structured format long enough to see substantial results.

Advocate for those things you believe in and for those you want to buy in

3. Play to Win by making your case on a multilevel and multi-dimensional platform:

--Start by determining which game you're playing.
Here are some examples-

--chess (think before you do - be very strategic with your moves and your words)
--checkers (all your ducks in a row - but it's simple, clean and to the point)
--scrabble (know what you're going to do before the other person makes their move and be able to change strategies if you need to after your opponent placed their pieces on the board.)

Know the game you're playing.

--Decide on your approach to the market based on the game you're playing.

--The Politician Approach involves picking a side without saying it directly. Your team may consists of a consultant, a strategist, and a specialist in specific areas that advises and speaks for you. The politician approach is about building a dynamic and impressive team.

--The Lawyer Approach is about being conservative, structured, and going by the book on the surface. Your team may consist of partners, directors who would handle operations, associates, and paraylegal who handles the administrative tasks.

--The Entertainer Approach is about letting the world know you're a star and how much you adore your fans. Your team may consist of an agent, a manager who handles all your business, a stylist (hair and makeup), a personal trainer and nutritionist, your PR specialist to spin your words, and you can't forget your entourage (your paid friends).

There are more examples but these give you an idea of how you can approach the marketplace to make your case about your business and your solutions.

Now you're ready to leverage the resources, people, places and tools to get out there and play the game, showcase your talent.

Lead with Intention, Advocate, Play to Win

...just maybe you could be the new "it!" Just make sure you back it up with Talent.
